State to State Races: Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana

This time around we got a few probable GOP wins in the presidential race, and along with more wins in the senate and house.

First lets take a look at Kansas. The GOP has to love Kansas for the upcoming year. It's six electoral votes, while small, and no doubt in the GOP hands. In the senate, Incumbant Pat Roberts looks to be secure in his battle againist Democrat Lee Jones. It also represents a steller chance for the GOP to retake a seat from the demcrats in District 2. Freshman Congress memeber Nancy Boyda has the fight of her life againist Repubican Jim Ryun.

Update: Thanks to some help from the comment thread, I have made some modifications to the Kansas page. I was a bit of a victim of old information, and so changes have been made such as Jim Slattery will challenge Lee Jones for the Dem nomination in the senate, and Lynn Jenkins has been added to the mix in the House race. If you should find any other old or misused data, I would be thankful if you could let me know. Thanks!

Next take a look at Kentucky. Much like Kansas, it's electoral votes look safe, as does Kentucky senator Mitch McConnell. And agian, there represents a possible pickup oppurtunity for Republicans, as another freshman congressman, John Yarmouth will battle to retain his seat.

Then there is Louisiana. This is a state that has the potential to be intreasting. It's nine electoral votes should be in John McCain's hands, but the senate seat is where the real fun is. A lot of people are expecting a big battle, as Democrat Mary Landrieu, who narrowly won her last two terms, seems to face rough competition in the next election. Not to mention that many Democrats are believed to have relocated to other states in the country. Only time will tell how this one will shape out.

I am tyring to get a whole heap of states done in the next two weeks, so stay tuned for that in the next few weeks.

Wow...more research needed in Kansas...because lee jones is going to lose his primary to former congressman jim slattery...and jim Ryun may not win is primary againI state treasurer Lynn Jenkins.

Not only that, but your Kansas page is totally wrong.

State Sen. Nick Jordan is the Republican who will be slaughtered by Dennis Moore in KS-03.

State Trasurer Lynn Jenkins is running against Jim Ryun in the Republican primary for KS-02 (multiple polls out there)

As the previous poster mentioned, Jim Slattery is running against Lee Jones. Jones doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell. There is a poll out there for Slattery v. Roberts as well.

Lastly, SurveyUSA does presidential head2heads in Kansas once a month.

Jim Ryun has the fight of his life against Lynn Jenkins...

Thanks for the comments.

According to my sources, Jim Slattery had not entered the race. I get a large portion of my information from Crystal Ball and Election Projection, and neither have him running at the moment. I read further to find out he is in fact running, so I am updating that accordingly.

It was virtually the same case in the house race involving ousted Congressman Jim Ryun and current congresswoman Nacy Boyda. I had not found information on Lynn Jenkins offically running for the seat. Again I will make the adjustments accordingly.

I appreciate you guys pointing it out to me.

This is 'off topic' a bit; but while driving to work a few days ago (being thankful for the blessing of being able to work - and by 'able' I mean healthy, eyes to see, hands to be used, mouth to speak and ask appropriate questions, a mind to think and reason with - all 'gifts' that
no political person can give to me)

anyway; while driving to work, I realized how wonderful we live in a country where because of FREE enterprise, if a job should end
there is always some other job needing to be done. (all one needs do is seek) How terrible if 'a politician' attempted to make it all SECURE...ie: "I" will make SURE that business provides YOU a certain wage (kind of takes the
control away from 2 individuals doesn't it? the employer (owner of the business) and the employee (who is his own 'boss' in that he knows what he needs to gain for himself in always being employable and will of his own mind decide what he is willing to work for)

In the first scenario of a politician ensuring 'security of living' FREEDOM is removed. In this scenario, WE - employer and employee actually begin to 'work for the STATE' 'the state' now 'owns' the 'person' - being the one who sets wage, hours, and
in time: expectations of time given to the job, ie: we will tell you what we expect, and when and if you can leave. (similar to the idea of slavery) In the scenario where individuals can make thier own minds up of what they need for thier given circumstance (the youthful worker can afford to work for less, the middle aged has experience with which to 'negotiate' a fair wage,
the older - experience and financial security of their own making; allows flexibility of not just wage by hours they can give)

Imagine a nation where people are
'employees of state control over thier lives' IMAGINE 'if' an individual did anything or said anything 'state' did not like at a particular business. In 'free will' employment, if one employer should say 'your services are not required anymore' - around the corner there would be another free enterprise that might 'see something' the other employer 'missed' in this person, in state control of all business;
if 'ousted' by one state business;
the one IN CONTROL will make sure
you do not gain employment again.
(every possibility of such) Imagine
'a state' 'ensuring' health insurance for all...what a grand
way for 'state' to use such to intimidate that which the individual says. If you complain of us...we 'take your health insurance away'

brrrrr....

I prefer 'the security' of owning my own life...paying my own way,
doing and growing my potential at my speed. ENJOYING the FREEDOM this country has always offered.
FREE to 'shake the dust' of my sandles if 'some' don't 'like' me,
without much concern 'of them'
because INWARDLY..."I LIKE MYSELF"
(my TRUE SELF; that guides 'me', my Christo-centric self ie: The Way, Truth, and Life who lives "in and through me" and with TRUST in that self; I can speak when called to speak if I see actions that are not in keeping with common Go(o)d.

a p.s. to above from same anonymous:

I prefer I prefer the "security" of owning my own life...paying my own way;

I'm secure when I don't buy THINGS excessively in order to simply "appear" to have "made it"
to my peers. Someday, when I can have, by my own efforts of working, saving, and educating
my own self, I can have things
and appreciate them much better.

Educated my own self; is a lifetime process, 4 or 2 years in
formal college might get the process started, but simply holding a piece of paper does not
make one 'educated.' The person educates themselves by reading words in a book, putting the words to understanding through an actual
living (experience)and with a value system (belief system)to weigh the human words/experience
to objective truth.

ie: a book can speak of how to get a job, we can apply for job be given the opportunity. But, down deep, "the truth" speaks of why we gained work; it was because we were READY to accept responsibilities (no matter how small)"seek and you will find" - these words ACTED ON which we learned through our system of beliefs taught. Acting on beliefs, the "Truth" grows in us and our FAITH in "the Truth" grows. We
then are led rightly by this inner Truth and not mere words of humans. We can discern 'solid truth' from 'mere human words' that strike at our egos.

Truth: to 'have' takes work. It doesn't come 'quick' and it doesn't come 'easy' Nothing of
worth lasts that is acquired easily. Learn and accept such truth and you remain free.

The following is an excerpt from:
http://www.crosswalk.com/spirituallife/11576087/

[some of my own comments in brackets]

God has given us a blueprint for happiness. We think it comes from freedom from all constraints. But this isn't truth. Happiness comes from staying within the walls of protection that God has given us in His Word.

We are now seeing the final results of that great social experiment that began in the
1960s. We can clearly conclude that it was a colossal failure as we CAST ASIDE ABSOLUTES like family and fidelity and honesty and compassion and all the rest, and chased after what we wanted. As the Scripture says in Psalm 1,
Blessed [or happy] is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper. (vv. 1-3 NKJV)

Do you want to be a happy person? It is found in doing the RIGHT THING. [I add here: the RIGHT THING for the RIGHT REASON; ie:
we live this earthly life to show
FIRST honor to God, with whole heart, mind, strength]

It is also found in not doing the wrong thing.

You are not going to find happiness in materialism. (THINGS for the sake of THINGS to impress 'friends')

You are not going to find it in a career. [career only to impress others with your knowledge and status and power] "career" in
serving the common good - brings
blessing ('fruit' of one's labor)

You are not going to find it in a [human] relationship [of itself]. [and only a fleshly human relationship][ie: marriage is a call of Love, Love is synonymous with God, therefore to marry another is to live 'for the other' and to be 'open' to NEW LIFE that comes from such authentic love] Authentic love 'takes the bad with the good of that fleshly person' and draws each other to TRUTH aka God. Authentic love, seeks that highest good for each other - that of some day being in the fullest union of love - God's spirit - aka heaven]

You are not going to find it in drugs. [which destroys the potential God put within you to 'be']

You are not going to find it in anything this world has to offer.

Do you want to be a happy person? Live God's way. Do you want to be an unhappy person? Live your own way.

It's 'simple' yet 'hard'
The narrow road...that leads to
a happy life...for eternity.

another article on seeing the glass half full rather than half empty: http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/SavingandDebt/LearnToBudget/IMake650AnHourAmIPoor.aspx

This woman apparently had some setbacks. Nothing unusual really, life holds no guarantees everything will be smooth from beginning til end.

Eventually; this woman woke up to her possibilities rather than be-moaning her temporary circumstances. Rather than remain bitter she was lifted up (I'd say by the spirit within her) She began to see all all that she did
possess (within her being) rather
than her 'lacks')
